Privacy policy

How we handle information about you on bigfive-test.com: what we collect and why, cookies and ads, how long we keep it, and your rights under the GDPR.

Last updated October 23, 2026

This privacy policy explains what information we collect when you use bigfive-test.com, why we collect it, how it is stored, and the rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In short: the test needs no account, and we do not ask for your name, email or anything else that identifies you. What we store is your test answers, tied to a random result id. The only exception is an email address you give yourself in a feedback message so that we can reply.

OMIB matrix-test pilot. When you agree and start the main test, we save your selected elements, skipped tasks, test form and version, language, start and save times, and result. Two necessary cookies identify your browser's attempt so that you can resume for up to seven days. Unfinished attempts expire after seven days and are removed automatically; you can also discard them from the test. Browser storage keeps an unconfirmed selection. Completed results remain until you delete them using the result page in the browser where you took the test. Deletion removes both the attempt and result. After the last task, you may optionally give your age in whole years, country of residence and gender. Choosing “Save details and see result” gives consent to store the completed fields with your test answers to evaluate and improve the test and develop a basis for comparisons. We record the consent version and time. You can skip the form and get the same result. These details do not change your score, are not shown on shared result pages, and are not sent to advertising or analytics services. They are deleted with your result when you withdraw consent by deleting it. The pilot does not produce an IQ score and does not send answers or scores to advertising or analytics services. A result link can be opened by anyone you share it with.

Data controller

B5 Holding AS (Norwegian organisation number 833 451 472) is the data controller for the information collected on bigfive-test.com. Questions about privacy can be sent to bigfive-test@rubynor.com.

What we collect

When you take the test we store:

  • your answers to the 120 statements
  • the language the test was taken in
  • the time the test was submitted
  • how long you spent on it
  • the country you were in when the test was submitted, as our hosting provider derives it from the IP address (the address itself is not stored)
  • how you answered: the time per statement, how many answers you changed, whether you used a phone, tablet or computer, whether you came through a group or comparison link, and, if you tell us afterwards, whether you answered attentively

The answers are stored together with a randomly generated result id. We do not store your name, email address, IP address or anything else that links the result to you as a person. The result can only be opened by someone who has the link.

We also store which version of this policy you accepted before the test, and when.

When you take one of our other tests, such as the career interest test or the dark personality test, we store your answers in the same way, together with the language, the time and a random result id, but in a separate part of the database. These results cannot be compared with others. You can delete them from the result page in the browser where you took the test.

The reasoning test. In the logical reasoning test we store whether each of your answers was right, how long you took, the language and a random result id, in the same way as the other tests. At the end you can also give your age and gender. This is optional; if you give them, they are stored with the result, without names or contact details, and used only to compare results (for example by age group) as more people take the test. You can delete the result, including these details, from the result page.

Optional background details. After the Big Five test you can give your age, gender and the country you live in. This is voluntary and does not change your result. If you give them, they are stored with your answers under the same random result id, without names or contact details. They are never shown on shared result pages and are not sent to advertising or analytics services. The legal basis is consent (GDPR article 6(1)(a)); you withdraw it by deleting the result, which deletes these details with it.

Health-related tests. The ADHD screener, the anxiety test (GAD-7), the autism screener (RAADS-14), the burnout test (CBI) and the "Five good habits" checklist ask about symptoms, exhaustion and everyday habits, so your answers may say something about your health. Before you start, we ask for your explicit consent to store the answers. The answers are stored without names or contact details, we do not send visits to their result pages or events from these tests to Google Analytics, and the share image never shows the result. You can withdraw your consent by deleting the result. The four-week plan in "Five good habits" is created in your browser and is not stored by us.

Feedback. From the result page you can report a problem with the test. We store the message, which test it concerns, the language and, if you give it, your email address, so that we can reply. Your answers are not sent with it, and the message is not linked to your result. The message is deleted once the matter is handled, at the latest after twelve months. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in fixing errors (GDPR article 6(1)(f)).

When you compare results with others, we store the names you enter and which results are included, under a random comparison id. The names are not in the link. Whoever created the comparison can delete it at any time; the names and the link are then removed, while the results are kept. A group (a class or a team) is a comparison that people add themselves to through a join link, under a name they choose; anyone in it can remove their own name and result from it again.

In your browser we store, without sending it to us:

  • answers to a test in progress, so you can continue later
  • the ids of your results and their deletion keys, so you can find them again and delete them
  • the comparisons you have created or opened, with the names in them, and the deletion keys for those you created, so you can find them again
  • your chosen language and theme (light or dark)

You can delete this at any time by clearing site data for bigfive-test.com in your browser.

Technical logs. When you visit the site, our hosting provider Vercel automatically receives technical information from your browser, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. This is used for operations, security and troubleshooting, and is kept for a limited period.

Why we process the information

  • To give you your result. Your answers are needed to calculate and show your profile, to let you find it again, and to compare it with others. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in providing the service you asked for (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)).
  • For health-related tests. Answers that may say something about your health are only processed with your explicit consent (GDPR Article 9(2)(a) and Article 6(1)(a)).
  • For statistics and research. We produce statistics across all results, for example averages per language, age group or country, to improve the tests and for research on personality. The statistics are aggregated and cannot be traced back to individuals. We may publish such aggregated figures or share them with researchers. Individual results are never shared.
  • For operations and security. Technical logs are used to keep the service stable and safe.

We do not sell information, and we do not use it for marketing directed at you.

Cookies, advertising and analytics

Necessary cookies. The site uses one cookie, locale, which remembers the language you chose. It contains no personal data and needs no consent.

Advertising. The service is free and funded by advertising. Ads are delivered through Publift and their advertising partners, who may set cookies and use similar technologies to show, personalise and measure ads. This may involve processing device identifiers, IP address and activity on the site.

Such cookies are only set after you give consent in the consent dialog shown on your first visit. The legal basis is consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw or change your consent at any time through the "Privacy settings" link at the bottom of the page. If you do not consent, you still see ads, but they are not personalised.

Visitors in the United States. In US states with their own privacy laws, such as California, the link at the bottom of the page is called "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information". Through it you can opt out of your personal information being sold or shared with advertising partners for targeted advertising.

Analytics. We may use analytics tools to understand how the site is used, for example which pages are visited and how long the test takes. Cookies for this are only set with consent, in the same way as for advertising.

Vercel Web Analytics. To count visits, we use Vercel Web Analytics. It sets no cookies and does not store IP addresses. Visits are counted anonymously with a code that changes every day. We see page views, country, device type and which page a visit came from, but not who you are. Result ids, names in comparison links and other parameters in the address are removed before anything is sent.

How long we keep the information

Test results are kept for as long as the service exists, so the link to your result keeps working. You can delete your result yourself at any time, or ask us to, see below. Technical logs are deleted automatically by the hosting provider after a short period.

Who we share the information with

We use service providers for operations:

  • Vercel for hosting the website
  • DigitalOcean for the database where test results are stored
  • Publift and their advertising partners for ads, as described above

These providers process the information on our behalf under data processing agreements. Information may be processed outside the EU/EEA. In that case the transfer is protected by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards.

Beyond this we do not share information with anyone, unless required by law.

Links to other services

The site links to Pair Perspective, a separate service with its own privacy policy, and to external websites in articles. We are not responsible for how other websites handle information.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • access the information we hold about you
  • have information corrected or deleted
  • have processing restricted
  • receive the information in a machine-readable format
  • object to the processing

Delete it yourself. On the result page you find "Delete the result for good". It works in the browser the test was taken in, and on every device where you have opened the private owner link you received with the result. The key in the owner link sits in the part of the address that is never sent to us. The result is then removed from the database immediately, and all shared links stop working.

Stop sharing without deleting. From the result page you can request a new link. All links you have shared then stop working, including comparisons that used them, while the result is kept for you under the new link. You can do this as many times as you like.

Ask us for help. Since we cannot link a result to a person, you need to send us the result id or the link to the result so we can find it. Send your request to bigfive-test@rubynor.com. We respond as quickly as possible and at the latest within 30 days.

If you believe we process information unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority. In Norway this is the Norwegian Data Protection Authority, datatilsynet.no.

Requests from employers and other third parties

We occasionally receive requests from employers, schools or others asking who has viewed a result, or asking us to block a result. This is what we can and cannot do:

  • We do not keep access logs. We do not know who opened a result, when, or how many times.
  • We cannot link a result to a person. A result is only a random id, the answers and the time.
  • We delete a result when its owner asks. Others can only request deletion if they send us the link and there is reason to believe the result concerns them.
  • We do not hand over results or information to third parties without a legal basis.

If you have shared a result with someone and regret it, you can delete it yourself. That is the only way to revoke a shared link.

Children

The test is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information about children.

Changes

We update this policy when the service changes. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
