Middle range
Your answers fall in the middle of the scale. Work takes up a fair amount of room, and it may depend on the period how much it crowds out other things.
What the score means
The score comes from the six workaholism statements and runs from 0 to 100. The three levels describe parts of the answer scale. A score of 70 does not mean you work more than 70% of people.
What seems to drive it
People work a lot for different reasons. This compares how much room work takes with your standards and your effort.
Pushed by high standards
Work takes up quite a lot of room, and you also expect a great deal of yourself. When nothing is ever quite good enough, it is hard to stop. Your standards may be part of why the work never seems to end.
The three parts
The first part is the workaholism score itself. The other two show your standards and how much effort you put into your work.
- WorkaholismWork sometimes crowds out other things, but not all the time.58
- PerfectionismYou expect perfection from yourself and often from others.83
- EffortYou do what is needed, and sometimes more.56
How you can use this
- Look at a normal week. Where does work spill over into time you would rather spend on something else?
- Set a clear end to the working day, and put away the phone and e-mail after it.
- Compare your three scores. Is it the amount of work, your standards or your effort you want to change?
What this test can tell you
- The score comes from a CAT-PD scale, a research tool for personality traits that can cause problems in everyday life. Perfectionism comes from the same tool, and effort from the IPIP-NEO-120. It is a self-report, so it shows how you see yourself.
- The scores have no norms here, so they cannot show how you compare with other people.
- Working long hours is not always a sign of workaholism. Some periods and some jobs simply demand a lot.
- This is not a clinical test. It cannot diagnose work addiction or burnout.
