Your anger
A made-up example that shows what you get after the test. Take the test to get your own result.
Middle range
Your answers fall in the middle of the scale. Anger is part of your life, and it probably depends on the situation how much it affects you and the people around you.
What the score means
The 27 answers are combined into a score from 0 to 100. The three levels describe parts of the answer scale. A score of 70 does not mean you are angrier than 70% of people.
If your anger frightens you or others
Many people get good help with anger, and asking for it is a sign of strength. A doctor or psychologist is a good place to start. If you fear you may hurt someone, leave the situation and contact the emergency services.
How your anger works
Feeling anger and taking it out on others are two different things. This compares how easily you get angry with how much of it reaches other people.
You feel it, but it mostly stays with you
Anger comes fairly easily to you, but you rarely take it out on others. That protects those around you. It is still worth noticing where the anger goes, because it can wear you down if it just stays inside.
The four sides of your anger
The first two are about what happens inside you. The last two are about what reaches other people.
- Quick to angerYou get angry easily, and it can be strong when it comes.83
- Emotions taking overYour mood shifts at times, but you mostly stay in control.50
- HostilityYou rarely wish to hurt or get back at others.25
- Sharp tongueYou are careful with what you say to others.11
How you can use this
- Learn your early signs, such as a tight jaw or a raised voice. They give you time to choose.
- Find out when you are most easily irritated. Hunger, stress and lack of sleep are common triggers.
- Compare your four scores. Is it the feeling itself, or what you do next, that you want to change?
What this test can tell you
- The test uses four scales from the CAT-PD, a research tool for personality traits that can cause problems in everyday life. It is a self-report, so it shows how you see yourself.
- The score has no norms here, so it cannot show how you compare with other people.
- Few people agree with the most serious statements. A low score on hostility is therefore common, and it says little about how you would act under pressure.
- This is not a clinical test. It cannot diagnose anything or predict what you will do, and it does not show how others experience you.
