Questionnaire / instrument: Mini-IPIP6
What does it measure?
A brief overview of six broad personality traits: the Big Five plus honesty–humility. It offers a quick introduction to personality differences without a detailed facet profile.
Where does it come from?
Mini-IPIP6 was developed by Chris G. Sibley and colleagues, with a validation study published in 2011. It extends a short IPIP measure to include a sixth trait.
How is the result calculated?
Four items contribute to each of the six traits. Reverse-keyed answers are adjusted and averaged by trait. Scores describe your position on the answer scale rather than a population percentile.
What can the result tell you?
Four questions per trait offer less detail than a longer inventory. The six-trait structure is not interchangeable with the full IPIP-HEXACO questionnaire, and the test does not measure intelligence or diagnose a condition.
Languages and adaptations
Some item translations are reused from our existing IPIP banks; other wording was translated for this site with AI assistance. Translation does not by itself establish that a scale has the same measurement properties in another language.
License and reuse
Public domainIPIP places its items and scales in the public domain. They may be used, copied, adapted and translated for commercial and non-commercial purposes without a fee or separate permission.
The terms below apply to the test materials. Articles, translations, software and our result descriptions may have separate terms.
