About the test
Logical reasoning test
Verbal, figural and numerical problems in 15 minutes, from a test published by psychologists in the journal Intelligence. Shows your reasoning in three areas. Not an IQ test.
- 54 questions
- About 20 min
Questionnaire / instrument: SAFRAN
What does it measure?
Verbal, numerical and figural reasoning through six kinds of tasks, including word relationships, analogies, matrices, number sequences and arithmetic problems. Unlike a personality questionnaire, these tasks have correct answers.
Where does it come from?
SAFRAN (Short And Free Reasoning Ability assessmeNt) was developed by Patrick Mussel and colleagues and published in 2025. The test materials are shared by the authors on OSF.
How is the result calculated?
The main test has 54 tasks and a fifteen-minute time limit. Each correct answer earns one point. We show the total out of 54 and three content scores out of 18: verbal, figural and numerical reasoning.
What can the result tell you?
We do not convert the score into IQ or population percentiles because suitable norms are not implemented here. Language, familiarity and testing conditions can affect performance. Our translated and adapted tasks have not been independently validated.
Languages and adaptations
English and German come from the authors’ materials, with documented typographical corrections. Norwegian and other languages include our own AI-assisted adaptations of verbal tasks. Equivalent difficulty across languages has not been established.
License and reuse
Author permissionThe authors explicitly permit the use of SAFRAN materials for both research and commercial purposes in their publication. We credit the authors and link to their original materials on OSF.
The terms below apply to the test materials. Articles, translations, software and our result descriptions may have separate terms.
